From France, the best way to reach Georgia is by plane. However, the country is relatively easily accessible by road or train, depending on where you're traveling from.

By Air

A considerable number of airlines offer daily flights to Georgia. In recent years, international routes have been expanded, even though options remain somewhat limited.

As for budget airlines, an increasing number are connecting Europe to Georgia.

Direct flights are available from Paris at relatively affordable prices (around €300 with Air France for a one-way ticket). The flight to the Georgian capital takes approximately 4 hours 30 minutes.

Tbilisi was equipped with a new international airport in 2006. Located about 20 km from the city center, it serves as the country's primary aviation hub.

To reach the city center from the airport, you can take bus 37, which operates shuttle services between the airport and the railway station from 7 am to 9 pm. The bus journey, passing through Rustaveli Avenue, costs 2 lari and takes 45 minutes. Services run every half hour.

A train also provides direct connections between Tbilisi's railway station and the airport, costing 6 lari. The journey takes 25 minutes. The train terminal is located just 50 meters from the airport.

Unfortunately, train schedules don't always align with flight times.

Taxi remains the best transport option from the airport to the city center, given the timing of most flight arrivals.

The parking lot in front of the airport is paid. A single taxi company serves the airport and city center, charging 40 lari per ride.

However, the fare is halved to 20 lari when traveling in the opposite direction, from the city center to the airport.

By Train

A single railway line connects Tbilisi to Batumi, with stops at Gori and Kutaisi.

At Khashouri, a branch line serves the southern regions of Georgia.

This branch terminates at Akhaltsikhe.

Georgian trains

They are economical, operate at modest speeds, and offer the comfort necessary for a peaceful journey.

For example, the Batumi-Tbilisi and Tbilisi-Baku routes allow you to traverse Georgia in the best conditions.

There are two daytime trains and one overnight train connecting Tbilisi and Batumi in both directions.

For the outbound journey, an overnight train with a sleeper berth costs at least 20 lari.

The trains are state-of-the-art. The onboard service is of high quality.

The train terminal is at Makhindjaouri, located 5 km from Batumi's city center.

The departure from Tbilisi's central railway station is around 11 pm, arriving at Makhindjaouri around 7 am.

One tip worth noting: if you're traveling during the summer season, it's best to purchase your ticket 2 days in advance.

International trains

Heading towards Armenia and Azerbaijan, they connect Tbilisi-Yerevan and Tbilisi-Baku, offering a convenient alternative that saves you a day and avoids traveling by road.

Moreover, Tbilisi's railway station, renovated in the late 2000s, provides all the comfort you need while also featuring a shopping center.

By Road

Bus

This is the most budget-friendly transport option for reaching Georgia from neighboring countries.

Thus, bus services run multiple times daily between Tbilisi and Trabzon in Turkey, with a stop in Batumi.

Other buses also provide connections to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, as well as Russian cities such as Mineralnye Vody and Stavropol, via the Military Highway crossing through the Dariel Gorge.

By Sea

Batumi and Poti are the two departure and arrival points in Georgia for any sea voyage.

- Odessa and Illichivsk (in Ukraine),

- Sochi and Novorossiysk (in Russia),

- Piraeus (the port of Athens in Greece),

- Baku (in Azerbaijan),

- Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan),
