“
In the mountains of Georgia, each village has its character, its stories and its traditions. That's where you truly understand the strength and soul of the country.

— Shorena

Shorena has accompanied travelers in Georgia since the country's earliest opening to tourism. Alongside her partner, she has traveled through regions, met guides, selected distinctive accommodations and designed itineraries built on the quality of encounters, culture and history of the Caucasus. With Promethea, founded in 2010, she advocates for a thoughtful discovery of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. But her strongest attachment goes to Georgia's mountainous regions. A highlander through her maternal family, Shorena knows these territories of valleys, perched villages and preserved traditions intimately. She loves sharing a powerful nature, singular architecture and inhabitants who are at once proud, warm and deeply attached to their land. Her approach combines expertise, rigor and love of the country, to create journeys rich in landscapes, memory and encounters.

Everything you need to know about Georgia

Our local experts share their knowledge to prepare your trip.

When to visit Georgia?

The best time to visit Géorgie depends mainly on what you're looking for. From May to June, the Caucasus valleys turn green again, the trails of Svanétie and Touchétie become accessible, and Tbilissi enjoys mild weather before summer heat sets in. July and August remain ideal for high-altitude hiking, despite increased crowds at Kazbegi. September and early October likely offer the most perfect timing: the grape harvest (rtveli) is in full swing in Kakhétie, golden light bathes the monasteries of Kartli, and temperatures become pleasantly mild once more. Winter, meanwhile, is suited to skiing at Gudauri or Bakuriani, but closes most high-altitude passes until the following spring.

What budget should I plan for a trip to Georgia?

Georgia remains one of the most affordable destinations in the Caucasus, without compromising on quality. Budget on average between 90 and 140 € per day per person for a comfortable trip, including accommodation in family guesthouses or charming small hotels, meals, an English-speaking driver-guide and visits. The budget naturally increases if you add nights in Kakheti wine estates, domestic flights to Mestia, or more specialized experiences such as trekking with a muleteer in Tusheti. Conversely, a simpler trip to Georgia, based on marshrutkas and guesthouses, can be planned around 50 to 70 € per day.

Why organize your trip with a local agency in Georgia?

On paper, Georgia seems easy to explore on your own. On the ground, it's a different story: unpredictable mountain roads, a bewildering Georgian alphabet, characterful accommodations that don't appear on any platform, winemaking families who only open their doors to those recommended to them. This is precisely where an English-speaking local agency makes all the difference. Based in Tbilisi, we build each Georgia itinerary from relationships cultivated year after year with trusted drivers, hosts, and guides. We adjust routes based on high-altitude weather, religious holidays, and roads reopening in spring. You travel at your own pace, but with someone who picks up the phone if needed.

What to see on a trip to Georgia?

A trip to Georgia almost always starts with Tbilissi, its sulfurous baths of Abanotubani, its wooden balconies and its alleyways climbing toward Narikala. From there, many head to Mtskheta and Jvari Monastery, then rush to Kakheti to understand how wine has been made in qvevri for eight thousand years. The north calls to those who love mountains: the silhouette of Gergeti facing Mount Kazbek, the defensive towers of Mestia in Svaneti, the isolated hamlets of Tusheti accessible only a few months a year. To the west, Kutaisi opens the door to Okatse Canyon, Prometheus Cave and mythical Colchis. A dozen days are rarely enough.
