Georgia is a relatively open country that allows all citizens of the European Union, as well as Swiss and Canadian nationals, to stay on the territory for a duration of 1 year without a visa.

To enter Georgian territory, French nationals are exempt from visa requirements—a valid identity card or passport is all that's needed.

Any continuous stay exceeding one year requires a long-stay visa application along with a residence permit. The long-stay visa must be requested before departure from a Georgian consulate or embassy. This application can also be submitted in Georgia through the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Border Crossing

At border checkpoints or the airport, immigration or police officers are authorized to request certain documentation proving your purpose of stay.

Make sure you have with you a valid passport or identity card valid for the entire duration of your stay, a means of payment covering the duration of your trip, travel insurance, proof of hotel reservation or an invitation from a person or organization resident on the territory. A return flight ticket may also be requested or proof of departure from the country.
